Advanced Minimally Invasive Treatment for Varicocele
Varicocele is a common condition in men caused by enlarged and swollen veins inside the scrotum. It can lead to pain, discomfort, swelling, and even infertility if left untreated.
At our center, we provide advanced minimally invasive varicocele treatment using image-guided techniques that offer effective relief with faster recovery and minimal discomfort.
What is Varicocele?
A varicocele occurs when the veins inside the scrotum become enlarged due to improper blood flow. It is similar to varicose veins seen in the legs.
Varicoceles commonly develop on the left side and may affect testicular function and sperm quality in some men.
Common Symptoms of Varicocele
Many patients may not notice symptoms initially. Common signs include:
- Dull or aching pain in the scrotum
- Swelling or enlarged veins in the scrotum
- Feeling of heaviness
- Visible twisted veins
- Discomfort after standing for long periods
- Testicular shrinkage in some cases
- Fertility problems or low sperm count
If you experience any of these symptoms, early evaluation is important.
Causes & Risk Factors
Varicocele develops due to faulty valves in the veins that prevent proper blood circulation.
Factors that may increase risk include:
- Age between 15–35 years
- Increased pressure in scrotal veins
- Family history
- Prolonged standing or physical strain
What is Varicocele Embolization?
Varicocele embolization is a minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment performed by an interventional radiologist.
During the procedure, a tiny catheter is inserted through a small puncture in the groin or neck vein. Using advanced imaging guidance, the abnormal veins are blocked using coils or special embolic agents, redirecting blood flow to healthy veins.
This helps reduce swelling, pain, and improve testicular function.
Benefits of Varicocele Embolization
- Non-surgical treatment
- No major cuts or stitches
- Minimal pain and scarring
- Faster recovery
- Same-day or short hospital stay
- Quick return to daily activities
- Lower risk of complications
- Effective symptom relief
- May improve fertility outcomes
Who Needs Varicocele Treatment?
Treatment may be recommended for men who have:
- Persistent scrotal pain
- Swelling or discomfort
- Infertility issues
- Abnormal semen analysis
- Testicular size reduction
- Recurrent varicocele after surgery
Our specialists evaluate each patient individually to recommend the best treatment approach.
How is the Procedure Performed?
Step 1 – Evaluation
Clinical examination and ultrasound are performed to confirm varicocele.
Step 2 – Catheter Insertion
A small catheter is inserted into a vein under local anesthesia.
Step 3 – Embolization
The enlarged veins are blocked using coils or embolic materials under imaging guidance.
Step 4 – Recovery
The catheter is removed, and the patient is observed briefly before discharge.
The procedure is highly precise and usually completed within 1–2 hours.
Recovery After Varicocele Treatment
Most patients recover quickly after embolization. Recovery generally includes:
- Mild soreness for a short period
- Same-day or next-day discharge
- Return to work within a few days
- Gradual symptom improvement
- Follow-up for fertility assessment if needed
